Wicked new Korean Vampire film on its way!!!

I was speaking with a co-worker this morning about our common love for Asian Horror. We were both reflecting on the psychological chills and scares that Asian Horror does so well. Post this discussion I reflected on my laziness at not tracking down some new Asian Horror films (open to suggestions people!). Low and behold in my RSS feed box when I got home was a note from that fabulous movie site First Showing about a new Korean vampire flick from director Park Chan Wook. His new film is called Thirst and I think the trailer (from YouTube) looks great, chilling and a none too typical take on bloodsuckers, yet a clear tortured protagonist, with scares to boot! First Showing quoted the following synopsis:
“A beloved and devoted priest ( Sang Kang-Ho) from a small town volunteers for a medical experiment which fails and turns him into a vampire. Physical and psychological changes lead to his affair with a wife of his childhood friend who is repressed and tired of her mundane life. The one-time priest falls deeper in despair and depravity. As things turns for worse, he struggles to maintain whats left of his humanity.”
Thanks to First Showing (and YouTube) for the trailer, pity there are no English subtitles, but I think we still get the message! So I am quietly ‘peaking’ about this one, what do others think?

When marriage goes bad…

I am going to break the convention thus far of my blog. You know, talking about horror novels and films. This is due to one of the most sinister divorce requests I have ever heard of, which had my husband (JH) rolling around on the couch in tears. Yesterday I went to Borders yes, yes I know evil multi national blah blah. I usually go to the Indie book seller (Readings) across the road but they don’t stock horror zines. I also blame Fangoria for not fulfilling my subscription yet which I paid for three weeks ago (maybe I’m being impatient). So what if they have to send it half way around, then a giant kangaroo has to negotiate zombie koala’s to deliver it to my house (couldn’t resist a bit of bad Aussie humour). Where’s my goddamn zine?!? But I digress, so I bought Rue Morgue (Issue 87) as Fango wasn’t there and I thought having only red it once I would give it another go, encouraged by some forum chat at Bloody-Disgusting.
So flicking through the pages I came across a regular section entitled ‘Coroner’s Report:Weird Stats and Morbid Fact’s (p12). One of these weird and morbid tidbits was allegedly (putting that in so I don’t get sued) about a couples divorce settlement:
” Dr Richard Batista, a Long Island surgeon currently in the middle of a difficult divorce, has demanded that his ex-wife either return the kidney he donated to her or pay him $1.5 million in compensation.” (Rue Morgue, Issue 87, p12)
JH and I rolled around in tears laughing at the absurdity of the situation, however then discussed the possible plot line these decomposing nuptials lend themselves to… Surgeon, driven mad by cheating slutty wife and wants vengeance and his kidney back! The tag line on the poster could be something like ‘She didn’t make good use of his ‘organ’, now he wants it back!’ Ohhh the double entndre’s would ensue! Or maybe its just my black sense of humour?
True Blood-TV Series

With the ever growing global epidemic of VMD (Vampire Moistness Disorder) in females above the age of 15, it is with trepidation I am posting about the HBO series True Blood. The plethora of vamp inspired TV, books and movies recently has made a new generation of females contract VMD, and unfortunately their sacrifice in suffering from this disorder has not always been due to quality Vamp Vision.
However, True Blood the TV series is quality. The makers of this gritty gothic sojourn come with dark credentials, having also created the series Six Feet Under. True Blood is inspired by the Southern Vampire Series created by Charlaine Harris. True Blood makes you clutch your pearls from the opening credits which are a montage of grainy, sexy and decomposing images, setting the scene for things to come.
The series main character is Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) a barmaid/telepath, living in the deep south of America, in a community Bon Temps, which is struggling to come to terms with the recent ‘coming out’ of vampires as legally recognised citizens. A new resident moves into Bon Temps: Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), the first vampire to set up house in the area. What ensues is a murder mystery, complicated by fangbangers (VMD sufferers!!), bigotry, shape shifters and some steamy scenes featuring tie me up tie me down, hallucinogens, cemetery mud and bath time action. Phew someone fetch me my smelling salts!
Highly recommended viewing,
Ms Harker.
