‘Happy Town’ trailer invokes Twin Peaks?

Is it just me or do others get a twinge of excitement then nauseating cringe when a trailer, be it for film or television invokes ‘Twin Peaks‘? Dread Central alerted me to some of the new television shows which will be debuting in the Fall/Autumn season by ABC. Eastwick of which I feel looks like the ’special lovechild’ of Sex and the City and Passions (without the benefit of Timmy the midget/little person). Lets face it people, no man can replace Jack Nicholson. They also showed the remake of that Sci-fi cult hit ‘V‘, which I wish they (those inclined to remake) would let be.
However intriguing me was a trailer for a show called ‘Happy Town’, which in the opening voice over states ‘From the network that brought you Twin Peaks’… Sorry I just had to a take a deep breath. The story has its similarities a series of murders occurs in a small town, its up to the newly appointed (not so hard on the eyes) Sherrif to solve the increasing killings. Some insinuated mystical kookiness and strange old ladies with an out of bounds third floor, now all we need is a dancing dwarf and some bird references. Remember people ‘the owls are not what they seem.’
So we shall see, its a very tall order in my opinion to invoke Twin Peaks, whether it be for attention or comparison, set the bar high much? Check it out below.

9: Post-apocalyptic ragdolls, eloquent yet epic.

9 and his peeps.
The first trailer for the Tim Burton produced ‘9′ appeared around December last year. Written and directed by Shane Acker it is described by the guys and gals at First Showing as:
“9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which our very humanity is threatened. A group of rag dolls living a post-apocalyptic existence find one of their own, 9, who may be the key to their survival.”
I adore this style of animation especially the mixture of the rag doll and clockwork aesthetic. Combined with horror like beasties to give us some squeals, makes this film an exciting development in the animation/horror genre. The score for the trailer is by Coheed and Cambria lending it an unequivocally epic feel. Robert Downey Jnr takes on the undead!

Sherlock Holmes
I have lusted after Robert Downey Jnr for some time now. I stuck by him during the drug fueled shenanigans, because not only is he a mighty fine example of the male type of our species, he is in my opinion one of the greatest thespians of our time.
Already excited about the pending release of the Sherlock Holmes film late in the year, purely due to my appetence for Robert Downey Jnr; however what should land in my Inbox from those lovely types at First Showing? The new trailer for ‘Sherlock Holmes’ directed by Guy Ritchie. I watched with an expectation to see some brawling early London mystery solving and low and behold what should appear? None other than the undead, Nosferatu, Vampires!
So not only has my lasciviousness towards Robert Downey Jnr increased ten fold (I broke my string of pearls!), the now revealed plot of the Holmes adventure has also increased my interest in the film.
