‘Wolf Man’ has horror hounds howling!

I was intending on keeping my luscious lips shut about the release of the ‘The Wolf Man‘ trailer (thanks to Bloody-Disgusting for the video below). One, I haven’t seen the original and two I’ve been on a vampire binge of late. However my fellow bloggers (see Monster Land and The Vault of Horror) seem to have their panties in a little bit of a twist in regards to the CGI being used to transform the fabulous Benicio Del Toro from man to wolf.
Now I will probably cop a serve for this but… lighten up bitches! I thought the transformation looked great, Del Toro has the acting chops to display the pain and anguish of becoming the beast; which without said talent would render make up or CGI effects to something you put in little plastic bags when your walking your wolf in the park.
The atmosphere appears to be suitably gothic and we all know by now how much I love seeing a bit of ye olde psychiatry in horror films. Anthony Hopkins makes another appearance as a slightly mad supernatural sage, which is reminiscent of his role as Van Helsing in ‘Bram Stokers Dracula‘. Its Hopkins people, he’s a knight and can do no wrong in my eyes (except that weird film about the New Zealander who raced across the desert in a go-cart)!
‘The Wolf Man’ has the potential to make amends for any ‘New Moon‘ bollocks we will have to endure in the coming months, so suck it up and rejoice ye merry gentlemen and lassies, Werewolves for grown ups are coming!

August 22nd, 2009 at 1:17 pmHmmm…I will try my best to untwist my panties, I suppose. I am majorly excited for this, make no mistake. Also, I urge you to check out the original movie, I just reviewed it on the Vault. It’s no Dracula or Frankenstein, but I think you’ll dig it.

August 23rd, 2009 at 4:27 amI’m finally getting a free moment to sit down and watch this trailer and I’ve got to say I’m very excited to take a look at the film when it’s released! I wasn’t expecting that much gothicky goodness, and between the costumes, the medical theatre and the horse-drawn hearse, I’m SO on board. As to the CG FX, I’ve grown a bit more neutral towards them over time, having seen CG employed *really* well in films like the Lord of the Rings trilogy. We’ll see if “The Wolf Man” lives up to its promise early next year!

August 23rd, 2009 at 9:53 amSo it’s FINALLY going to be released. The trailer has me drooling for all the same reasons Tenebrous Kate referenced above.
To Kate: The old taphophile here was in a local cemetery the other week when he heard clopping hooves and turned to see an authentic horse-drawn, 19th-century hearse, complete with velvet drapes and gold brocade, turn down the lane headed towards him. It was a surreal and sobering moment.
Of course I had to chat-up the driver wearing black period mourning clothes. Turns-out he’d rebuilt and refurbished the vehicle himself and just come from depositing a local dignitary. A memory to dream on, eh ladies?

August 23rd, 2009 at 11:06 amHere, here Kate! The costumes look fabulous and that hearse is stunning. I am looking forward to the scenes in the medical setting, I have books that detail similar stories of old psychiatric asylums and the ‘treatment’ they used to demonstrate to medical students, which I find both fascinating and horrifying simultaneously.

August 23rd, 2009 at 11:07 amBrian you have the best encounters! So jealous, there is a carriage that takes people around Melbourne in the Spring and Summer, but its not a hearse… That would be cool!
