Clench your sphincters ‘Paranormal Activity’ is coming!

Quick post today as I have work deadlines coming out of my arsehole. However I couldn’t resist expressing my excitement at the pending release of the latest fright film ‘Paranormal Activity’. The film has launched a very clever marketing campaign enabling horror fans to DEMAND the film shows in their town. Here’s hoping Melbourne gets a look in.

The film is a good old spook driven haunting horror ride detailing the story of a couple whose home has been possessed by an evil presence:

“After a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban ’starter’ tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.” (Paramount Pictures)

The trailer is ghoulish and hilarious, however is a twist on your normal trailer, in-dispersing scenes from crowds at preview showings clenching their sphincters and fumbling their popcorn as the scares roll in. Check the trailer out below (courtesy of First Showing) and visit the website to demand ‘Paranormal Activity’ comes to your town!

Hammer Glamour… can you handle the heat?

Greetings and salutations. Recently I was contacted by a charming gent at Titan Publishing asking if I would mind having a look at their pending release ‘Hammer Glamour‘ by Marcus Hearn. As I am nowhere near an aficionado on the Hammer Stables I was delighted by the opportunity to read about the horror femme fatale’s and heroines that graced the infamous films.

The book is a collectors item for all horror fans, full of glossy well presented steamy  pics and detailed information on the set of stunners and temptresses that graced the silver screen in the name of Hammer Horror. Like I said, I am not hugely familiar with the suite of Hammer films so I flicked through the book looking for a name a recognised and low and behold there she was… Joanna Lumley!

Lumley starred in ‘The Satanic Rites of Dracula‘ as Jessica Van Helsing, replacing the actress Stephanie Beacham who played Jessica in the preceding film ‘Dracula A.D 1972‘. Lumley’s film picks up where Dracula A.D 1972 leves off, Jessica Van Helsing is in quite a predicament investigating a vampire infestation within a cellar in Pelham House. She unfortunately gets trapped and needs to be rescued by some sarcastic cops who prior to her entrapment had not  believed her story. According to ‘Hammer Glamour’ Lumley features in one of the most memorable scenes in the film providing the centre piece sacrifice for Dracula’s final ritual, before being rescued.

‘Hammer Glamour’ is full of gorgeous pictures of the Hammer glamour pusses (Meow!) and interesting information as to their part in an enduring chapter of horror history and present, spanning from the 1930’s and starting to make its come back in the current day. The book is  well worth a look. Stay tuned in the next couple of weeks as I intend to share with you more of these luscious ladies of crypts, coffins and cauldrons!

Trick ‘r’ Treat, there is a lesson in this film for all of us!

The pending release of ‘Trick ‘r’ Treat‘ has felt like a long time coming, however as October rolls closer I am still in shock it is still a DVD only release. It had a great response at Comic Con 09 and the horror community is all a buzz with anticipation of a truly intelligent, creative piece of work that still manages to make audiences squeal with fright and giggle with delight.  A deformed evil pumpkin head demon Midget (little person) chopping the achilles of a disheveled old man never gets old and is one of life’s guilty pleasures!

The official synopsis is as follows:

“It is said that Halloween is the night when the dead rise to walk among us and other unspeakable things roam free. The rituals of All Hallows Eve were devised to protect us from their evil mischief, and one small town is about to be taught a terrifying lesson that some traditions are best not forgotten. Nothing is what it seems when a suburban couple learns the dangers of blowing out a Jack-o-Lantern before midnight; four women cross paths with a costumed stalker at a local festival; a group of pranksters goes too far and discovers the horrifying truth buried in a local legend; and a cantankerous old hermit is visited by a strange trick-or-treater with a few bones to pick. Costumes and candy, ghouls and goblins, monsters and mayhem… the tricks and treats of Halloween turn deadly as strange creatures of every variety-human and otherwise-try to survive the scariest night of the year.”

There are some interesting cast members including the lovely Anna Paquin now known for her fangbanging portrayal of waitress Sookie Stackhouse in True Blood and Tahmoh Penikett hunky sci-fi regular who you may recognise for his roles in Dollhouse and Battlestar Galactica. I am personally looking forward to the relase of this film, as its been a while since we had a bit of good old fashioned spooky Halloween fun, that doesn’t involve some oedipal psychopath in a tattered mask massacring the local populace.
