‘I will have your fangs for earrings!’… True Blood Finale
Posted by Ms Harker | Filed under Horror TV
Greetings and salutations. Living on this water surrounded continent, it can take a little time for information to reach our shores, so this, my True Blood finale rant is a little late post airing.
So, now that I am suitably settled and in complete mourning garb, as there is sweet fuck all fangvision coming our way. I am here to lead you through the finale and the issues it has raised.
Gladly the episode finally rid us of the dirty rotten Maenad Marry-Ann who we all know was starting to drive me batty! However her death was all a little easy, not on Sam mind you, who was looking mighty fine this episode in a scruffy nice arse in jeans kind of way. The use of the bull to trap her was a nice touch, as the kind of bull they used has sacred meaning in many eastern cultures.
Miss Stackhouse finally pulled her finger out and grew a pair, stepping up to the role of local heroine in a restrained yet kick arse fashion. Again Jason and Andy added a comical element to the episode, as did Lafayette suitably charged as one of Marry-Ann’s brides maids and calling the entire down a bunch of ‘bitches’ at one point… hilarious!
It must be said however that I am a little pissy that Eric and The Queen barely featured in the episode, I was delighted with how the Queen put the Viking Vamp in his place, licking his fang and threatening to wear them as earrings meow! She is my kind of monarch! It is perplexing though, the agenda behind her selling of ‘V’ to humans and her obvious intolerance of vampire Bill (which I’m all for). Is she simply earning some cash to maintain her day room, or is she in fact keeping the human population in an intoxicated state in order to execute a grander plan? I’m going with the latter.
It makes me quiver with anticipation the thought of next season when Eric gets into assassin mode to take out foppish Bill, I’m eager to see the resulting blood bath that will ensue! There is also the unresolved issue of whether Eric will be able to penetrate Sookie’s resolve and give her a a real ride on the Fangtrain! Toot, toot!
The final scene although schmaltzy, did set up the next season well, leaving us to wonder if Sookie was in fact genuine in her response to the big question? Who grabbed mop top Bill, was it Eric or do we have another vampire hunter in town? What is the Queen’s caper, and what is the go with Sam going to find his furry parents? Many things to ponder, too long to wait!!
I am very keen to hear what you fangbangers thought, was it a vampirific finale or so dissapointing your VMD has gone into remission? So hit me up with your thoughts.

The Vampire Diaries: is this what we are left with?
Posted by Ms Harker | Filed under Horror TV
Biding my time, pacing the corridors of the Harker household, checking my corset and checking it twice. Waiting, waiting for the True Blood Season 2 finale, I decided to distract myself with the pilot episode of the latest vampolescent series to hit our screens ‘The Vampire Diaries‘. Oh boy, was that a mistake!
The series details the journal meanderings of a young girl Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) who has recently lost her parents. School is back after the summer break, enter the new guy in town and resident vampire Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Now, Stefan is fanging after Elena as she bears a striking resembelance to what we can assume is his past true love Katherine from the 1800’s. Stefan not unlike another moochy vampolescent that haunts our screens, Edward Cullen; has shunned the traditional vampire diet consuming squirrels or so his darker (and hotter, if I had to choose) evil vampire brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) would have us believe. Locals are getting munched on since Stefan arrived, Stefan only has eyes for Elena, Elena has eyes for Stefan and Damon wants to mess with everyone and get his fang on. This appears to be the story so far.
Apart from the obvious parallels with Twilight that can be drawn here, vampolescent feeding and hormonal posturing aside. The productions values were quite good, the appearance of the show was suitably dark, some good effects and symbolism. However what goes on with the persistence of this wave of ‘horror’ writers with their vamps being able to strut about in the sun? FFS! Stefan has a ring that has mystical powers which allows him to get around the school ground sniffing out Elena with the sun shining brightly! What is with the aversion to a bit of traditional vampire lore? Or is it too much of a challenge to have to set your stories at night time?
Is this all that we will be left with to get our sanguine thrills from with True Blood winding up? Holy crap! Let’s keep our fingers, talons and whatever else you have crossed that ‘Fear Clinic‘ comes through with some suitably adult horror viewing. Otherwise I am retiring to my coffin to wait it out for Eric and True Blood to return!

Gothic Photographic Goodies…
Posted by Ms Harker | Filed under Creepy Pictures, Horror Art
Greetings and salutations. Whilst I am trying to keep myself distracted awaiting True Blood’s finale this weekend I have been reading some new horror books and watching some movies. However it has been a while since I featured some Horror Art on Musings Across a Continuum, so lets get a little neo-gothic culture shall we?
Amanda Norman is a photographer I came a cross on Twitter. She has her own blog and sells her wares in the forms of print, greeting cards and business cards. Amanda describes her work as follows:
“They say that a picture paints a thousand words, but what about the feelings and emotions it provokes?
My graveyard photography allows the viewer to ponder in thought at the wonders of deathly beauty we seldom see, while some find my dark portraits truly horrifying.
Constant feedback from viewers tells me that my photography is working its charm and I always love to receive feedback from my fans. It allows me to delve into their inner thoughts and this can be quite addictive.
‘She captures the souls of her subjects and feeds off the emotional energy provided by her adoring fans.’
I’m new on the scene of dark and macabre photography and therefore not yet established as an artist. I’ve had a couple of photographs used; one on the cover of a book and the other on a magazine, but as yet, I still yearn for full recognition of my work. Hopefully one day I will have an exhibition in a gallery and see more of my photography featured in magazines, on book and CD covers and even horror posters.
I decided to take up photography in 2004 whilst visiting a beautiful graveyard in a village called Heysham in Lancashire, UK. I had a strong urge to capture my emotions and thoughts to share with others.
What secrets do the dead hide beneath their headstone?
Do the dead still have loved ones that tend to their resting place?
What was it like for them when they lived and how did they die?
If the dead arose, what would their eyes see?The only planning I do prior to taking photographs is deciding which cemetery to visit or who I’m going to photograph. The rest is then left to my wild imagination and making the correct use of the available lighting.
Currently I love to capture silhouettes against dark brooding skies and take photographs that feature long foreboding shadows. This is developing into a common theme in my work, as I love the atmosphere and the thoughts I conjure up as in, ‘what is actually out there’?
The black subjects hide their true form and therefore the viewer is left wondering more about the scene.”
I love pictures of ye olde head stones and have a little obsession with gargoyles and gothic era angels (which obviously stems from an over exposure to Anne Rice in my developing years!), of which Amanda captures beautifully in some of her work. She also does some creepy shots with chicks and skulls, check out some of her work below and head over to her site for more gothic photographic goodies!
