‘Trick ‘R Treat’, FFS follow the rules of Halloween people!

Greetings and Salutations!
Here in Oz its only six sleeps until Halloween. I have boycotted my surrounding social cultures resistance to celebrating ‘All Hallow’s Eve’ and have decided to throw a small gathering (under the cloak that it is JH’s birthday); of which I will post photo’s for you all to see the splendid outfits and decorations. I also have Celtic heritage and have decided that I am obliged to celebrate this annual event where the world of the dead and the living cross paths in a macabre meeting of flesh, spirit and the preternatural!
In preparation for the penultimate ‘Harker Halloween Hoedown’ I took it upon myself to do some research and learn some of the rules of this ancient event and what better way to do so than watching ‘Trick ‘R Treat’? From the outset I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It had the perfect balance of comedy, scares, the production values were very high and the ensemble cast was fabulous.
I can’t remember where I heard it, but someone, another blogger I think, said it was like the Pulp Fiction of horror. I understand now what they were referring to. The interweaving of the various characters and myths/rules plot lines was intelligent without being in your face, with the ever consistent presence of the evil little hessian bag head demon.
The continuous breaking of the ‘Halloween Rules/Traditions’ had me yelling and laughing hysterically at the screen. The fat kid kicking over the Jack ‘o’ Lanterns, I cringed with each one, then not checking his candy… Oh bad luck tubby! The scene in the old man’s house where we finally meet the hessian bag head demon was terrific, when the bag was removed I squealed like a little lady (as did JH!).
However my favourite story arch which was a complete twist I didn’t pick, being vampirically biased (of course), was the one with Anna Paquin. Talk about Grrrrl power! I must admit I do love it when the arsehole gets his just desserts in the end, at least his was wrapped in a hot package, initially anyway!
So, I am feeling better prepared for Halloween I now just have to decide on my costume… Voodoo Priestess or Vampire Queen? What do y’all out in the interwebs think?
