Thirst is coming to Melbourne!!!!

I can’t believe it! I am freaking out, I can’t believe this slid under my usual keen vampiric like senses… Thirst is showing at the Melbourne International Film Festival! Apologies to those readers from far and abroad, I will explain. The festival runs at this time every year and has a ‘Night Shift’ program which has a small selection of horror films. Now i read the preview program a little while ago and there was no Thirst to be seen. However whilst browsing our local broadsheet online I discovered an article discussing the attraction of horror films, the usual bollocks, why do people like to be scared blah blah. Low and behold the festival’s organiser is talking about a blood sucking priest! So I scrambled to the MIFF site, snatched myself up tickets for a night showing of Thirst and found to my delight Moon was also showing, so threw in tickets for that for good measure!

For those who have been spending too much time in their coffin, Thirst is directed by Chan-wook Park the synopsis is as follows:

“A beloved and devoted priest from a small town volunteers for a medical experiment which fails and turns him into a vampire. Physical and psychological changes lead to his affair with a wife of his childhood friend who is repressed and tired of her mundane life. The one-time priest falls deeper in despair and depravity. As things turns for worse, he struggles to maintain whats left of his humanity.”

I dodged a silver bullet here folks, so what lessons have we learnt today?

1. Be ever vigilant when your local film festival is creeping up behind you.
2. Good things come to those who wait; even in Australia.
3. Focus (distribution company of Thirst) sends out cool promotional stuff for Comic Con (thanks to the First Showing Crew for sharing, and inflaming my Comic Con envy).

Have a look at the trailer below (thanks to Eco Samurai for the footage) and join me in a little dance of glee around whatever deity takes your fancy!

Robogeisha… Geisha Dance… Geisha Milk?

Ok, this post comes with a disclaimer, if you are easily offended or have a low tolerance for gratuitous violence don’t watch the trailer below.

I have been following a guy on Twitter the last couple of days called Topless Robot, who also has a blog. He posts numerous times a day on weird and wacky things related to sci-fi, horror and the like. So, I am sitting here at my laptop trying not to freeze my arse off, and what should drop into my RSS feed but an article entitled ‘Robogeisha’. Now readers, you may not know but apart from loving Asian Horror, I have a bit of an obsession for most things Japanese. So away I clicked and the below trailer slapped me upside the head!

From the makers of Tokyo Gore Police (really this should have given me some warning), ‘Robogeisha’ is here to take out whomever gets in her path. The voice over is hillarious, as is some of the scenes Geisha Dance, Geisha Milk (?!), Geisha Transformer (yes she just turned into  tank in front of your eyes) and Geisha Arse/Hip Sword! Things do start to go a bit pear shaped after this, when a girl gets stabbed in the anus and the Geisha Army is let loose and Geisha Chainsaw does her thing. However I am curious as to why the buildings are bleeding when the MegaBot slices them in half.

I don’t quite understand the appeal of these films, however they seem to have quite a cult following, they are definitely not for those prone to squeamishness when the blood starts to flow, or more accurately squirt in the case of ‘Robogeisha’.

Thirst… finally vampires who feed on blood and have sex!

Prior to the Cannes Film Festival Thirst was getting equal press to that of Anti Christ however a woman messing with her privates is always going to get media attention! So Chan-wook Park’s Thirst faded into the background a little, but its back. Bloody-Disgusting has just sent the word out that a new trailer for the film has arrived for its release in the USA on the 31st of July.

Personally, I have been anticipating this films release, the posters have been raunchy, the teaser trailers were intriguing. Finally we have some vampires who feed on blood, human blood and also get a bit of action *wink wink*! From the new trailer it looks like we are in for a treat, good scares, quality vamps, a bit of raunch and some wall climbing to boot!
