Hoffine will send chills down your spine… or blood if you are in the way!

Greetings and Salutations.

Reading through a couple of horror mags the other week, I came across the artist Joshua Hoffine. So I contacted this fine gentleman and asked if I could feature his work on this here blog, of which he kindly agreed.

Hoffine expresses his horror vision through the medium of photography. His work is chilling, challenging and at times elegant. His placing of bodies and the images he creates portray a world of horror that’s reality based. However also plays on the irrational fears that we all hold in our psyche and expands this in his work to portray these fears in an amplified conceptualisation.

Hoffine describes his perspective on the basis of his work as follows:

“I love old Disney cartoons. I like the hyper-realism of animation, and the overblown production values of Hollywood movies. I want my images to be pretty so you’ll look at them longer. I am interested in the science of fairy tales. I want to reinvent archetypes. I embrace the Jungian power of the cliche. I think of my photgra[hy as pieces of candy.

I believe that the horror story is ultimately concerned with the imminence and randomness of death, and the implication that there is no certainty to existence. The experience of horror resides in this confrontation with uncertainty. Horror tells us that our belief in security is delusional., and that the monsters are all around us.”

Hoffine’s work is a crisp and visceral trip through the potential horror in our lives, however also manages to have a dark sense of whimsy. Below are some examples of his work, please visit his site to see more, you will be deliciously disturbed.

Halloween and Horror Decorations… for your computer!

Greetings and Salutations.

With Halloween approaching fast I find myself increasingly jealous of those of you living in the USA. This being as the holiday is actually celebrated and celebrated with vigor. Here in Oz it goes off with a whimper. JH feeling my pain brought me home a bag of goodies from Bernards Magic Shop a Melbourne institution of which he has fond memories of going to with his Dad, (blah, blah show me the presents!). In said bag of Halloween fun was a plastic bat and a couple of spiders, a skull to hang in my office, two little bags full of black cauldrons and white skulls to decorate around the house, a branch that was covered in black sparkles a skull and bats and last but not least table sprinkles int he shapes of assorted bones. Fangtastic fun and there was a promise to bring me more goodies in the weeks to come so stay tuned.

So readers I would like to impart my own gift to you. I have been cruising the Deviant Art website for some Halloween/Horror appropriate designs for my wee laptop and thought I would share them with you. Damn these people ar talented and a little twisted, but we wouldn’t have them any other way. See below for a small picture of the design, the artist and a link to where you can find the wallpaper. Enjoy!

Oh the mini HORROR! The work of Adalberto Abbate.

Greetings and Salutations.

Whilst fossicking around Reddit.com I found these amusingly delightful mini horror sculptures made by one Adalberto Abbate. His site is suffice it to say minimalist, however these minuscule microcosms of the macabre tickled my fancy so I had to share them with you all. My search for information on the artist didn’t come up with much so I can only fantasize that he is an Eric Northman like Northern Italian who could sit behind me at a pottery spinning wheel a la` Partick Swayze style… What too soon?
