A Nightmare on Elm Street… Freddy is back!

Greetings and Salutations!
I admit it, I have largely been ignoring any of the Elm Street related hype. I know B_Sol over at The Vault of Horror is probably going to spank me, but largely I haven’t given a crap, the films aren’t really my thing… Until now! Tickle me interested with that claw Freddy! The new trailer has well and truly caught my attention.
I wasn’t allowed to watch horror movies during my youth, so my parents are entirely to blame for my adult obsession with the Macabre. However my Dad did introduce me to Twin Peaks and The Exorcist when I was fourteen, so he eventually redeemed himself. I digress, so I kind of missed the whole watching Freddy at sleepovers thing (yes I will take the shame!).
So my question to those of you who are more versed in this cornerstone of the horror genre, should I go and watch the original before this incarnation comes out? I hear Johnny Depp makes an appearance! I will defer to your judgment people, so drop me a comment and let me know your thoughts.

Jennifer’s Body, hot demon action or just another ‘private’ time aid for the lads?

I will be brutally honest with you. I have been avoiding most news about ‘Jennifer’s Body‘ for a number of reasons. Primarily Megan Fox urks me, not because she’s hot, because she may make my ‘free cheat list’ (along with Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jnr, Drew Barrymore JH and I share Drew on the list so I don’t think a ‘menage a trois’ is counted as cheating, finally Alexander Skarsgard is in reserve).
I digress, I am also excited about the lovely Diablo Cody making a foray into the horror genre, however am dubious about Ms Fox’s abilities to carry it off without being simply another addition to most men’s masturbation aids. My other reservation is that it has been a while since I have seen some good (emphasis on good) steal your soul, reek some havoc, steam it up rock out with your tits out demon possession. Don’t get me wrong now; I mean power to the sisterhood use your assets to swallow those members… soul and all, bringing your local male community to its knees. This can be done well or it can turn out like porn with blood and entrails.
However I just viewed a clip at Shock Til You Drop which may have restored my faith in the film’s possibilities. Not too cheesy seduction line, humorous Emo crack, then a spooky line of how she needs her victim scared and hopeless so he tastes good. Fabulous! The film releases September 18th, check out the red band trailer (courtesy of First Showing ) and try to stay calm viewing the poster (thanks to Bloody-Disgusting) with Megan Fox dressed as a school girl. If you need some ‘private’ time, I advise you back away from the keyboard.

Scottish horror that will have you shiverin’ in yer porridge!

Many thanks to Superheidi at Pretty-Scary.net for bringing this film to my attention. ‘The Dead Outside’ is premiering at the ‘Another Hole in the Head’ film festival in San Francisco.
It is a film made by Scottish director Kerry Ann Mullaney, set in the zombie/macro infection genre in our not too distant future. The majority of the populace has been infected with a neurological disease, transforming them into maniacal killers. The film centers around two of the uninfected. One of which is a little NQR, has surrounded herself in razor wire and a shotgun, the other of which is simply looking for shelter… or is he?
The trailer is intriguing, the dark, wintry ambiance draws me in straight away and the idea of a neurological disease/disorder spreading I also find to be a refreshing take on the genre.
Let’s all wear no knickers under our kilts and eat sheep’s stomachs stuffed with barley, in the hope it gets a general release. Aye!
