Halloween Hoedown at the Harker Household!
Posted by Ms Harker | Filed under Horror Funnies
Twas the afternoon before Halloween and all through the house Ms Harker and JH were hanging cobwebs, bats, spiders, and shrunken heads. The pumpkin was carved looking a little bung-eyed, it was not important it was imperfect the point is we tried!

The Skeleton sprinkle were laid out with care, the dips were prepared, an eyeball here a severed finger there…

So the decorations were up, the table was set now it was time to strap into to my corset. I’d applied my white make up with finesse and care (hilarity ensued as the colour difference to my natural tone was next to nowhere!), painted black around the eyes, blood red to the lips, though the outfit as not exact my impression of Vampira was a decent hat tip!

The guests started to arrive, they all had the Halloween spirit, we had Zombies and Vampires, Pirates and Bush Rangers and even a jar of Vegemite ISnack 2.0 (for those of you off shore an epic fail of a product that mixed cream cheese into the Aussie icon and then rang a comp to give it a naff name!).

The ladies looked gothically gorgeous, the men scary and gruesome too, some were engrossed in their character finding victims to chew. Despite the level of inebriation we remembered to sing to JH a raucous ‘Happy Birthday’ to you!

So now in the quiet of my hangover, a cheeseburger ingested, I think back to last night with grin and a smile, that our house was Halloween Horror infested and we did it with style.

Greetings and Salutations!
Here in Oz its only six sleeps until Halloween. I have boycotted my surrounding social cultures resistance to celebrating ‘All Hallow’s Eve’ and have decided to throw a small gathering (under the cloak that it is JH’s birthday); of which I will post photo’s for you all to see the splendid outfits and decorations. I also have Celtic heritage and have decided that I am obliged to celebrate this annual event where the world of the dead and the living cross paths in a macabre meeting of flesh, spirit and the preternatural!
In preparation for the penultimate ‘Harker Halloween Hoedown’ I took it upon myself to do some research and learn some of the rules of this ancient event and what better way to do so than watching ‘Trick ‘R Treat’? From the outset I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It had the perfect balance of comedy, scares, the production values were very high and the ensemble cast was fabulous.
I can’t remember where I heard it, but someone, another blogger I think, said it was like the Pulp Fiction of horror. I understand now what they were referring to. The interweaving of the various characters and myths/rules plot lines was intelligent without being in your face, with the ever consistent presence of the evil little hessian bag head demon.
The continuous breaking of the ‘Halloween Rules/Traditions’ had me yelling and laughing hysterically at the screen. The fat kid kicking over the Jack ‘o’ Lanterns, I cringed with each one, then not checking his candy… Oh bad luck tubby! The scene in the old man’s house where we finally meet the hessian bag head demon was terrific, when the bag was removed I squealed like a little lady (as did JH!).
However my favourite story arch which was a complete twist I didn’t pick, being vampirically biased (of course), was the one with Anna Paquin. Talk about Grrrrl power! I must admit I do love it when the arsehole gets his just desserts in the end, at least his was wrapped in a hot package, initially anyway!
So, I am feeling better prepared for Halloween I now just have to decide on my costume… Voodoo Priestess or Vampire Queen? What do y’all out in the interwebs think?

Greetings and Salutations.
With Halloween approaching fast I find myself increasingly jealous of those of you living in the USA. This being as the holiday is actually celebrated and celebrated with vigor. Here in Oz it goes off with a whimper. JH feeling my pain brought me home a bag of goodies from Bernards Magic Shop a Melbourne institution of which he has fond memories of going to with his Dad, (blah, blah show me the presents!). In said bag of Halloween fun was a plastic bat and a couple of spiders, a skull to hang in my office, two little bags full of black cauldrons and white skulls to decorate around the house, a branch that was covered in black sparkles a skull and bats and last but not least table sprinkles int he shapes of assorted bones. Fangtastic fun and there was a promise to bring me more goodies in the weeks to come so stay tuned.
So readers I would like to impart my own gift to you. I have been cruising the Deviant Art website for some Halloween/Horror appropriate designs for my wee laptop and thought I would share them with you. Damn these people ar talented and a little twisted, but we wouldn’t have them any other way. See below for a small picture of the design, the artist and a link to where you can find the wallpaper. Enjoy!
